Dear Family,
Alright, let me tell you what happened to me this week. Overall it was good, but a lot of bad things happened. First off, conference was amazing. President Uchtdorf's talk was just amazing and every single talk was just as good. The spirit at the MTC is so different than anywhere else. I hope you go back and read those talks.
Another thing after conference...(Wednesday) I got to get up at 4:30 in the morning and fly to Vegas to pick up my visa...It was so different. First, they dropped us off with no instructions of what flight we were on, how to check, in where to check in, and what portal we needed to be on. Then when we figured all of this out, we found out our plane didn't leave til eight so I got to sit in an airport for four hours. Well, my travel group and I decided Let's do some missionary work while we are here. It was awesome. We met one of the Seventy. I cant remember his name but it was sweet! Then after we talked to him he challenged us to talk to as many people as we could about the gospel that were in our flight. That was the best part of the day. Oh, and i saw doctor barrows (as well as the Fayes) at the airport. What the weird!? After we had gotten on our flight we were shoved in the back and it was not very fun. We had one sister screaming as our plane took off. We also annoyed everyone on the plane because the sisters would not stop talking about their hair and dresses that they brought. It was fine until we got to Vegas.
Let me just say you can physically feel the difference between the MTC and Vegas. Everyone was sad and there was of course a lot of worldly scenes and pictures in the airport. Also, there were slot machines in the airport... what?!! Then we were picked up by another elder serving a service mission and he took us to the consulate where it took around thirty minutes to get our visas. After that he took us back to the airport where we waited another four hours to get on our other flight.... Yeah... Anyway there was a fantastic part of this trip. We talked to a man who was from new York and he worked for ABC and was very interested in us. We just had a very general conversation about what he does what we do and where we were from and near the end of our conversation I had one of the strongest promptings to bear my testimony. I hate to say but I missed my opportunity, and I have had nightmares about missing that opportunity to share what I know.
Then when I got back, the rest of the week was a blur of appointments with Senor Crex and classes. I honestly don't remember much of the rest of my time here already the days are just flying by. However, the main motto of this past week I do remember: Are you converted to the lord? Are you willing to give up anything to follow him? I realized that I am not fully converted. I have a testimony but I am not quite converted yet. I invite you to come unto Christ and to become converted. How do you become converted? By turning away the natural man and becoming as a saint--submissive, humble, meek, full of love and charity. I have learned so much here. I can't wait to serve the people of Mexico.
I hope to hear from you soon. Lane, I did get your letters and they make me laugh every time. I'm sorry I haven't responded. I hardly have any time. By the way mom dont you love my english? [evidence that I edit these letters before posting]. ANNA YOU GOT AN RPE! I'm so sorry. Just don't suck on the spit in the back of your mouth, okay? Mom and Dad thank you for the packages you have sent me. They were awesome; however, can you send me some more t-shirts and one of my belts that I normally wear? Thank you. I miss you all and hope you are all having fun. Mom, sorry I don't have good English. I know it's bad, but I only have an hour to write letters and I have many to write. I'm super glad to know what is going on in your lives. Keep writing me and emailing me!
Love you lots,
Elder Thompson
